Narapatulu Mera Dappina (నరపతులు మేరదప్పిన)

Composer: Baddena Bhupaludu (AD 1220-1280). He was also known as Bhadra Bhupala. C.P. Brown. He was a Chola prince and was a Vassal under the Kakatiya empress Rani Rudrama Devi during the thirteenth century. He was a pupil of Tikkana, the greatest writer in Telugu. If we assume that the Sumatee Satakam was indeed written by Baddena, it would rank as one of the earliest Satakams in TeluguMore...

పద్యం:
నరపతులు మేరదప్పిన,
దిరమొప్పగ విధవ యింట దీర్పరియైనన్.
గరణము వైదికుఁడైనను,
మరణాంతక మౌనుగాని మానదు సుమతీ.

తాత్పర్యం:
రాజులు ధర్మము యొక్క హద్దు తప్పినను,విధవ స్త్రీ ఇంటియందెల్లకాలము పెత్తనము చేసినను,గ్రామ కరణము వైదిక వృత్తి గలవడైనను ప్రాణము పోవునంతటి కష్టము తప్పకుండా సంభవించును.

Narapatulu merxa dappina,
diramoppaga vidhava yimta deerpari yainan,
garanamu vaidikudainanu,
maranaamtaka maunugaani maanadu sumatee

Meaning:
It is dangerous proposition if a King crosses the limit of righteousness, if a widow runs a family for long time and if a karanam also perform the duty of the temple priest.
