Bhartruhari was fiercely enamoured of his newly-wedded wife Pingala, a fact which caused Vikramaditya considerable anguish for the elder brother neglected his kingly duties preferring to spend his life in her arms. జాడ్యం ధియో హరతి సిఞ్చతి వాచి సత్యం
మానోన్న తిం దిశతి పాప మపాకరోతి |
చేతః ప్రసాదయతి దిక్షు తనోతి కీర్తిం
సత్సఙ్గతిః కధయ కిం న కరోతి పుంసామ్ ||
తాత్పర్యం:
విద్వజ్జనుల సహవాసం వల్ల బుద్ధిమాంద్యం నశిస్తుంది. తెలివితేటలు వృద్ధి చెందుతాయి. తమకు పండితుల స్నేహం ఉన్నదని లోకానికి వెల్లడైనప్పుడు, వారి గౌరవం ఇనుమడిస్తుంది. తమచేత మంచి మాటలను సత్యమైన భాశణను పలికిస్తుంది – వారి మైత్రి, హృదయాన్ని నిర్మలంగా ఉంచడమే గాక పాపాలను పోగుడుతుంది. కీర్తిని కలిగిస్తుంది. ఇన్ని మాటలేల?….. సజ్జన సాంగత్యం అనేది చేయని మేలంటూ ఉండదు.

Meaning:
Friendship with wise men gets rid of one’s stupidity and one’s knowledge improves. Such association gains the respect of people. One will learn to speak wise words with true conviction. One’s mind gets cleared of unknown fears and makes it clean and healthy. The advantages of a wise association cannot be counted!
