లాఙ్గూల చాలనమధశ్చరణావఘాతం
భూమౌ నిపత్య వదనోదరదర్శనం చ |
శ్వా పిణ్డదస్య కురుతే గజపుఙ్గవస్తు
ధీరం విలోకయతి చాటుశతైశ్చ భుఙ్త్కే ||
తాత్పర్యం:
తనకు గుప్పెడు మెతుకులు వేసే వాడి ముందర తోకాడిస్తూ నలబడటమో – నేలమీద పొర్లుతూ కాలితో తన పొట్టకేసి చూపించడమో చేస్తుంది కుక్క. కాని ఏనుగు అలా కాదు ……… ఠీవిగా నిలిచి మావటివాడు ఆప్యాయంగా అందించే మేతను లాలింపు ద్వారా గ్రహిస్తూ ధర్యదృక్కులతో చూస్తుంటుంది. కవి నిశిత పరిశీలనకు ఇది మచ్చుతునక. ఉత్తములు నీచ చేష్టలు చేయరాదని దీని భావం.

Shvaa Pindadhasya Kuruthe Gajapuggavasthu
Dheeram Vilokayathi Chaatushathaishcha Bhugthke ||
Meaning:
When someone throws few grains of food, the dog starts waving its tail and rolling on the floor showing its belly with its leg. But an elephant always stands erect and accepts only the food given by its mahout with utmost care and affection. Such is the difference in behavior of an ignorant man and a scholarly wise man.
